Frequently asked questions
Where does the fuel price data come from?
Prices come from the GOV.UK Fuel Finder scheme, where UK forecourts report their pump prices. We refresh the data every 15 minutes, so the prices shown are as current as retailers report them.
What is the average price of petrol and diesel in the UK today?
Across the forecourts we track, unleaded (E10) averages 171.0p per litre and standard diesel averages 198.4p per litre. Prices vary by area, so search your postcode for what is nearby.
What is the difference between E10, E5 and super unleaded?
E10 is standard unleaded petrol with up to 10% ethanol and is suitable for most petrol cars built since 2011. E5 (super unleaded) contains up to 5% ethanol and a higher octane rating, and is recommended for some older and performance cars. Check your vehicle handbook if you are unsure.
How do I find the cheapest fuel near me?
Enter your postcode or share your location, choose petrol or diesel, and we list nearby stations with the cheapest highlighted. We search within 5 miles first and widen to 15 miles if nothing is in range.
Are motorway services more expensive?
Usually, yes. Motorway forecourts typically charge noticeably more per litre than supermarkets and local stations, so it can pay to fill up before you join the motorway.
